Real Time Gov ("RTG") is operated by Real Time Gov LLC, a California company based in Sacramento. The RTG software is the intellectual property of Cirkadia Inc., licensed to Real Time Gov LLC for operation of the Service. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have over your data.

What we collect

Account information

When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and organization. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment information is handled by our payment processor — we don't see or store your full card number.

Workspace data

The bills you track, positions you take, tags you create, notes you write, votecards you build, and other content you create inside RTG. This is your data — see Your data ownership below.

Usage data

How you use the product: pages visited, features used, time spent, browser and device type, IP address. We collect this through Google Analytics and our own server logs to understand which features matter and where the product can improve.

Mobile data (Pulse)

Pulse is our mobile-optimized companion website, accessed through any modern mobile browser — not a native app. With your explicit permission, Pulse may access location for features like the Capitol Directory. You can revoke browser permissions at any time in your device settings.

How we use it

  • To provide and improve the service
  • To send transactional communications — account confirmations, the alerts you've configured, billing notices
  • To send occasional product update emails (you can unsubscribe at any time)
  • To investigate security issues and prevent abuse
  • To understand how customers use the product so we can make it better

We do not use your private workspace data to train AI models. RTG's AI features (bill summaries, committee analysis) operate on public legislative data — the bill text itself, public hearing records — not your private notes, positions, or coalition data.

Who we share it with

We share data only with the service providers we need to run the business:

  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Google Analytics — anonymized usage metrics
  • AI / LLM providers — for AI bill and committee summary features, we send the relevant public bill text to large-language-model APIs. We do not send your private workspace content to these providers.
  • Email and SMS providers — for delivering the alerts you've set up

We do not sell your personal data. If we ever need to disclose data for a legal reason (subpoena, court order), we'll push back where appropriate and notify you unless legally prohibited.

Cross-account coalition features

Some RTG features — coalition whip counts — intentionally share data between specific customer accounts. This sharing is:

  • Explicit and opted into by both account owners
  • Limited to the data the feature needs (positions on shared bills, not your other workspace data)
  • Reversible — you can stop sharing at any time, and historical shares are auditable

The shared scorecard or whip count is owned by the Customer who created it. Each participating Customer retains independent ownership of its own contributed positions and notes.

Your rights (California — CCPA / CPRA)

California residents have specific rights regarding personal data:

  • Right to know — request a copy of the personal data we have about you
  • Right to delete — request that we delete your data (subject to legal and accounting retention obligations)
  • Right to correct — request that we correct inaccurate data
  • Right to opt out of "sales" — we don't sell personal data, but this right exists by law and you can exercise it

To exercise any of these rights, email support@realtimegov.com. We'll respond within 45 days.

Security

We use industry-standard encryption (TLS in transit, AES at rest), tight access controls, and regular security review. No system is perfectly secure — if a breach affects you, we'll notify you promptly and in accordance with applicable law.

Cookies and analytics

We use cookies for:

  • Authentication — keeping you logged in
  • Preferences — remembering your settings
  • Analytics — Google Analytics, anonymized to understand usage patterns

We do not use cookies for advertising or retargeting. You can block cookies in your browser, though some features may not work correctly without them.

Children

Real Time Gov is built for professional legislative work and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Data retention

While your account is active, we retain your data as long as it's needed to provide the service. If you cancel:

  • Your workspace freezes immediately
  • Your data is preserved for 30 days in case you return
  • CSV export remains available throughout the 30-day window
  • After 30 days, your workspace is destroyed and data is permanently removed from production systems

Some data may persist longer in backups or as required by law (e.g., billing records).

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page when our practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the most recent change. For material changes, we'll also notify account holders by email.
