Product — Real Time Gov · The shape of California legislative work
Product

The shape of the work, in five moves.

Everything RTG does maps to five stages of a California advocacy day — stay current, find what matters, decide and whip, know the players, report out. Every feature lives in one of them.

Ask Kaia rides along — Ctrl+K from any step.  ·  See the full workflow ›

01
Stay current

Keep a live read on California.

Your day, the floor, the week, the file — what's happening, the moment it happens.

1 Dashboard

Where your California day starts.

The first ten minutes of your day — everything that moved overnight, today's calendar, your tracked portfolio. One screen, no hunting.

The dashboard isn't a homepage dressed up — it's an operating surface. Sign in once and the bills that moved overnight are already triaged, your tracked portfolio shows what changed, today's calendar tees up the hearings, and your assignment queue is sorted. No "where do I start" moment. The morning is already underway.

  • Stat cardsBill introductions, amendments, and your tracked portfolio — refreshed live, no manual reload.
  • Tracked billsWhat changed overnight, sorted by recency. “NEW” pills flag bills that moved while you slept.
  • Calendar railToday's hearings and upcoming deadlines at a glance — a peek into the full Calendar & Scheduling Suite, without leaving the dashboard.
Plus, on every page Slide-out bookmarks · Ctrl+K bill search · Help in context
2 Your Bill Docket

Your tracked bills and your assignments, in one inbox.

Every bill you're following and every assignment in one place — with an inbox that surfaces what actually needs you next, so nothing slips between the cracks.

The Docket is your personal command surface for the work itself. Three lenses: your Inbox — what's been handed to you, what moved overnight, what letter is coming due; your Tracked list — everything you follow, with positions and priorities; and Outbound — what you've delegated to teammates. One place to see what's yours, and what's next.

  • Inbox — what needs youNew assignments, overnight moves, and letters coming due — triaged the moment you sign in.
  • Tracked — everything you followYour full tracked set with positions, priorities, and team context in one filterable list.
  • Outbound — what you've handed offBills you've assigned to teammates — bump, reassign, or pull one back in a click.
2 Real-Time Intelligence

Know the moment it happens, not the morning after.

California legislation moves fast. By the time a daily news email lands, the vote has already happened. RTG closes that gap.

RTG never blinks. When a vote is called on the Assembly or Senate floor, the result is in your portal — and on your phone — within minutes. No batch jobs. No overnight updates. No "we'll have it tomorrow."

  • Live ActivityReal-time floor voting on the Assembly and Senate. Chamber state, on-call votes, live activity on tracked bills.
  • NotificationsIn-app, email, SMS, and calendar alerts for bill events, hearings, votes, and amendments. Each user controls their own channels.

11 RTG Briefing

The whole week — on the bills you track.

Real-time tells you what just happened. RTG Briefing keeps the whole week — intros, amendments, floor votes, vote changes, clearances, chaptered measures, vetoes — and lets you narrow it to just the bills you're tracking.

Every Friday, RTG publishes a snapshot of the prior seven days of California legislative activity, then preserves it permanently. Flip from all bills to your tracked bills and the whole record reshapes around your portfolio. The floor-vote layer is uniquely ours — it reconciles the live floor against the published roll call (the adds and changes no one else captures, each tagged to Senate Rule 44 or Assembly Rule 104/106) — but that's one part of the full picture, not the whole story.

  • Fast Facts FridayThe week's snapshot — intros, amendments, floor votes and changes, clearances — with your tracked bills called out and an all-vs-tracked toggle.
  • Session RecordThe permanent, searchable archive of every weekly snapshot, with multi-week trends and session-long leaderboards.
  • Legislator & Bill SpotlightPer-member and per-bill deep dives into the floor-vote story — every add, change and outcome.
12 Virtual Daily File

The Daily File — searchable, with your bills flagged.

The official Assembly and Senate Daily File is public — but it's a dense PDF you read top to bottom. RTG makes it searchable and filterable, adds bill titles, and flags the bills you track on sight.

Every measure scheduled for floor action, in printed-file order, for both chambers and every file day. Filter to Consent, Third Reading, Concurrence or Unfinished Business with one click, search by bill, author or appointee, and let the tracked banner tell you up front how many of your bills are on today's file — and where. Then print or export the filtered view as your floor agenda for the day.

  • Your tracked bills, flaggedThe tracked banner surfaces your bills the moment the file posts — “7 bills you track are on this file, 3 on Third Reading.”
  • One-click file filtersJump to Consent, Third Reading, Concurrence, Unfinished Business and more — chips built from the file itself.
  • Both chambers, every file dayAssembly and Senate, a date pager back through the session, and a link to the official LegInfo PDF.
  • Print or export your agendaPrint the filtered view or pull CSV — your personal floor agenda for the day.
Calendar & Scheduling Suite

Every hearing, floor session, and deadline — with your bills on it.

The whole session calendar in one place — committee hearings, floor sessions, and legislative deadlines, with your tracked bills (and the letters you owe) flagged right on the date.

Read it as a scannable agenda or a full day, week, or month calendar. Every event is colour-coded, every tracked bill is flagged, and each one shows whether a position letter is filed or still needed — so nothing sneaks up on you.

  • Agenda & calendar viewsA clean agenda list or a day/week/month grid — hearings, floor sessions, deadlines, and your own events in one place.
  • Your bills, your lettersSee which of your bills are up, and whether the position letter is filed or still needed — right on the hearing.
  • Weekly Schedule emailRTG emails next week's agenda every weekend. Subscribe by iCal, or two-way sync with Outlook, Google, and Apple Calendar.

3 Find & Track

From 2,000–2,600 bills a session down to the dozen that matter to you.

4,000+ bills introduced per session, across 180+ hearing days with 2,500+ amendments. Plus existing law. Finding what matters and understanding it quickly is the whole job.

Curate a portfolio across clients, issues, or members. Set positions. Assign to your team. Find legislation by bill number, keyword, or the section of California code it touches — then track it in one click.

  • FindCtrl+K opens a quick palette for bill-number or keyword lookups from anywhere in the portal. The full Find Bills page adds California law-code lookup and deeper filters.
  • Track or bookmark inlineFrom any search result: bookmark to come back to it later, or track to commit. Both available in one click, no navigation needed.
  • My BillsFilter, sort, and manage your tracked legislation. Save default views. Hand off to reports.
Law Radar

Track the law itself. The bills come to you.

The inverse of bill tracking. Instead of chasing individual bills, you watch an area of California law — and RTG brings the bills to you.

Watch a chapter of the Government Code, a title of the Education Code, the Political Reform Act — and every bill that proposes a change surfaces automatically. Track a branch once and every section beneath it is covered. Built for when your work is a domain, not a bill list that resets each session.

  • BrowseThe full California code as an expandable outline — track any chapter, division, or section in a click.
  • CoverageTrack a branch and everything beneath it is watched. One rule covers the whole subtree.
4 Bill Pages

Inside every bill, a workspace.

Find Bills gets you to the bill. The Bill Page is where the work happens — every angle on one bill, all in one place.

When you click into a bill from anywhere — the dashboard, a search result, a votecard, a notification — you land on its workspace. Set positions and assign your team on Manage. Read the Summary in 30 seconds. Compare amended versions side-by-side. Walk back through the timeline of every committee action.

  • Bill PagesEvery bill has a deep-dive workspace: manage, info, text, compare versions, related law, analysis, support & opposition, votes, timeline, and documents.
  • AI summaries & briefsEvery long bill and committee analysis is AI-summarized. Brief in ten minutes, not Sunday night.
AI Ask Kaia

Ask anything. Get a cited answer.

Ask in plain English — how the Assembly voted on a bill, which of your tracked bills a member voted against, what moved on the floor last week, or simply how to use RTG. Ask Kaia draws on your live legislative data and the Help Center, and every answer is cited to its source.

AI-forward, human-led — a fast answer with the receipts, not a black box. Available on every page, and as a full-page workspace inside RTG.

Decide & whip

Take a position, line up the votes, move together.

Where a position becomes a plan — across your team and your coalition.

5 Team Workflow & Strategy

One workspace your whole team — and your clients — work out of.

Multi-person policy teams need shared context — who's tracking what, what's our position, what are we telling the board on Friday. RTG replaces the spreadsheet-and-email duct tape.

Workspaces share positions, tags, priorities, and assignments across a team. Votecards let you whip a docket together — solo, as a workspace team, or as a cross-customer coalition. Calendar sync, tags, and workspace settings keep everyone working out of the same shared context.

  • VotecardsWhip your bills, solo or together. Anticipated positions per legislator, attributed notes, anticipated-vs-actual scoring once votes happen.
  • Calendar & Scheduling SuiteThe shared workspace calendar — hearings, deadlines and the Weekly Schedule email, synced to everyone's Outlook, Google, and Apple Calendar.
  • Settings & WorkspacesWorkspace administration: users, groups, tags, clients, classification options for organizing work across multiple priorities or accounts.

9 Votecards

Whip together. Solo, team, or coalition.

Most CA bill-tracking tools don't do collaborative whip counts at all. RTG ships all three modes — and they share the same data model, so a personal whip count can be promoted to a team or coalition card without re-entering anything.

For each bill on a votecard, mark each legislator with a 6-option anticipated position — Confirmed Aye / Staff Aye / Unknown / Staff No / Confirmed No / Lay Off — and attach short field notes. Every position and note is attributed to who set it, and when. When the vote actually happens, RTG scores anticipated against actual.

  • Personal modeYour own anticipated positions and notes — solo whip counts that scale up when you grow a team.
  • Workspace teamShared positions, attributed notes, everyone editing the same count without overwriting each other.
  • Cross-customer coalitionWhip counts that span organizations across separate RTG accounts. Architecturally unique to RTG.
  • Anticipated-vs-actual scoringKnow exactly where your whip count was off — and which staff intel was reliable for next time.

7 Who's Who in California

Bills don't move themselves — see who's moving them.

A bill is only half the picture. The other half is the people behind it — legislators, committees, and the Capitol staff you actually call.

8 Organizational Directory

Every position they've taken. In one place.

A bill author tells you what someone wants to do. An organization's full position record tells you what they've actually done — every Support, every Oppose, every time they've switched sides.

Pull up any tracked organization and see their complete legislative footprint — every Support, every Oppose, every time they've Switched sides, every bill they're actively moving on right now. The kind of intelligence usually buried across hearing transcripts, staff analyses, and PDF letters — surfaced in one stat-card view, drillable to the individual bill.

  • Position historyEvery position an org has ever taken on California legislation. Filterable by session, committee, position type.
  • Switch countsTrack how many times an org has flipped position on a bill mid-session. Useful intelligence on which orgs you can negotiate with.
  • Actively movingWhat the org is engaging on right now — current bills with live positions, current session only.
  • Frequently alignedWhich other orgs tend to land on the same side as a given org. Strategic intel for coalition-building.

Report out

Turn it into something your board reads.

The output stage — polished, branded, and out the door.

6 Report Studio

Reports your board reads. Without the Sunday-night formatting.

Report Studio is a full-screen editor for the reports you ship — a ten-section configure rail, five ready-made layouts, and a live preview that renders exactly what recipients will see.

Point it at your bills — by tracking, position, author, committee, date window, even across workspaces — pick a layout, and watch it render in Live preview. Then choose how it ships: AUTO runs it on schedule and emails your clients, DASHBOARD pins it for the team, PORTAL publishes a branded page you hand over as one link. The Reports list still runs the docket — drag to reorder the Dashboard, category icons, stale and never-run flags.

  • Five layouts + CustomClient Weekly, Board Pack, Internal Status, Tabular — or Custom with every option exposed. Picking one seeds the right content; tune freely after.
  • Live previewA second tab renders the real report every time you save — print straight from it. No more save-download-check loops.
  • CompositionStack saved reports into a single render under one main heading — assemble a full board pack from the reports you already have.
